FAQ

1. What is grid.org?

Grid.org is a community for open source cluster and grid users, developers, and administrators. Home to the UniCluster open source project as well as other projects and communities, the Grid.org mission is to provide an all-inclusive destination for people with similar cluster and grid interests. We offer a single location that aggregates all relevant information about open source cluster and grid technologies, projects, users, uses, documents, stories, questions and answers, and more.

In short, Grid.org wants to make life easier for users of UniCluster express and other open source HPC technologies.

2. What does this mean for Globus members, Grid Engine members, and members of other open source communities?

Grid.org is meant to augment project specific sites like dev.globus.org and gridengine.org. The mission of the site is to provide a single location where open-source cluster and grid information can be aggregated so that people with a similar range of interests can easily exchange information, experiences, and ideas related to the complete open source cluster software stack. We have found that the nature of grid computing is to use many tools in coordination to achieve a goal. As such, having a destination like grid.org allows users of various tools to share information relevant to that higher level coordination.
